my best guess

Downloads doubled — from 4 to 8. But revenue is still $0, active devices is 0, and there was 1 deletion. People download it and then stop using it. Last month I had no words. This month I have numbers, but they're not saying much either.


next month's delusions

I'm working on ASO for Requote right now — screenshots, descriptions, keywords — and that'll probably take a while. Also bringing some Mac-only features over to iOS and iPadOS, and cleaning up the design overall. Honestly, I'm scared that none of this will change anything. But it's what I can do right now, so I'm doing it.

I think it's safe to say this project is officially a failure. Pricing, features, design — I could list a hundred things that went wrong, but if no one's sticking around to use the app, there's not much else to explain. It's my first app, so I'm attached to it, and it was something I genuinely needed — but if the market says no, then as a product, it failed. Can't argue with that. I thought maybe there'd be other obsessive text-block collectors out there who'd want something like this....

sumof: app that counts how many tubes of toothpaste you own

I've come to the conclusion that when things aren't working, I do more work. I'm sure that's not a great way to open a blog post. Right now I'm recording a work with me video, I just crammed dozens of tasks into my calendar, and writing this is somehow the most relaxing part of my day. My first app, Requote, has been live for over three months and has made exactly $0. I wrote a whole post about that already, so I'll skip the details. I built something I wanted, put it out there, and didn't make it good enough to pay for. So now I'm making another one. The new app is called sumof. I add things I own — how many, where they are. Like the three tubes of sunscreen sitting in different drawers. Without something like this, I'd definitely buy another one next time I'm at the store. Or I can check if I still have onions in the fridge before adding them to an online order. It also means not having to stand in a bookstore wondering if I have this at home. ...
